| We regret to report that our beloved This passed
away in August 2007.
This was one of the first school horses purchased by
Lynn when she started Hunter Green Equestrian Centre. This and That were
saved from sub standard living conditions and brought to Hunter Green.
These two big chestnut thoroughbreds had no names.
Their very similar looks inspired Lynn to name them This and That. Which
since that time has been a reoccurring source of amusement around the
barn.
“Is that This?”
“No, this is That, that is This”
could often be heard. |

This was a good mannered old guy. He
was a great beginner horse. This was the first horse ridden by many new
students to Hunter Green. He was a great reliable mount that could be
trusted to take care of the most green, and often nervous, beginner riders.
He was great with young riders and beginner adults as well.
Some of you may remember a favourite event from past
HGEC fun shows. “Pick up This’ left front foot”. As
age was taking its toll, This was reluctant to pick up his left front
foot. At just the right touch, he would pick it up – no problem.
But getting the right touch was not always easy. In the “Pick Up
This’ Left Front Foot Game” everyone would get one chance
to ask him to pick up his foot. A cookie was the reward for any who were
successful.
After owning This for several years, Lynn was finally
able to determine his “real” name and racing records by researching
his lip tattoo. Who would have guessed that This was actually “Steel
Tower”.
This had been taking it easy for the last while, doing
only occasional light lessons, but he still loved to go for a good run
in the pasture with his pals.
This will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
Don't Cry for the Horses
By Brenda Riley-Seymore
Don't cry for the horses
That life has set free
A million white horses
Forever to be
Don't cry for the horses
Now in God's hands
As they dance and they prance
To a heavenly band
They were ours as a gift
But never to keep
As they close their eyes
Forever to sleep
Their spirits unbound
On silver wings they fly
A million white horses
Against the blue sky
Look up into heaven
You'll see them above
The horses we lost
The horses we loved
Manes and tails flowing
They Gallop through time
They were never yours
They were never mine
Don't cry for the horses
They will be back someday
When our time has come
They will show us the way
On silver wings they will lift us
To the warmth of the sun
When our life is over
And eternity has begun
We will jump the sun
And dance over the moon
A Ballet of horses and riders
On the winds to a heavenly tune
Do you hear that soft nicker
Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses
Love the ones that are here
Don't cry for the horses
Lift up your sad eyes
Can't you see them
As they fly by?
A million white horses
Free from hunger and pain
Their spirits set free
Until we ride again
